Osama Jameel, a PhD student at Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad and Deputy Secretary General of the Jammu Kashmir National Students Federation (JKNSF), was martyred by security forces in Rawalakot, Kashmir.
According to reports, he was one of the main student leaders organizing people in the movement since the start of the sit-in.He was among the principal student leaders of the peaceful march in Rawalakot and lost his life on 27th July while chanting for the rights of the people. He was an active member of JKNSF and had consistently fought for the rights of the people.
Eqbal Khan, Secretary General of the Progressive Students Collective, has strongly condemned the brutal crackdown and killing of peaceful protesters. He said that students like Osama represent the future of any nation, as he was not merely a scholar confined to his studies but also an active political worker who organized people in pursuit of their rights. The state’s attitude toward peaceful protesters such as Osama demonstrates how low the administration has stooped in denying people their demand for rights. He further added that they demand justice and accountability for Osama Jameel’s family.
