Students of Islamia College University Peshawar held a protest walk on Wednesday inside the campus against sexual harrasment. A large number of female students participated in the protest with considerable number of male students as well.
According to the students, many unreported cases of sexual harrasment and a few reported cases provoked the protest.
A female student at the protest accused Amirullah, Chairman of the Department of Political Science, for harrasing one of her fellows recently and other female students for years.
Students demanded that harrasment cases must be investigated and those ‘teachers’ who are involved should be terminated immediately.
Talking to the TSH, Iqra from Progressive Students Collective appreciated the girls of Islamia College for standing against harrasment. She further said that it was unfortunate that harrasment preventing committees were not functional in almost all campuses. “This actually means that campuses are not safe for women” she added. She further told TSH that the formation of harassment committees is one of the main demands of Students Solidarity March which is to be held on 27th of November across Pakistan.
